A year in review 2020
We all know I could probably go down the rabbit hole on the pandemic, election, other craziness that this year has brought us, but I’ll skip that.
Back on the right career path
This year was a big year for me. A successful one. I entered this industry at a developer in 2015 but since my start at Adobe (2018) I have only been working in the realm of design. I missed scripting and all the heartache that comes with it, so I was looking for opportunities that would allow me to flex my code muscle here at Adobe. In the middle of the year there was an opportunity for me to jump all over the opportunity of finding myself in a dev role. My team had to migrate all of our landing pages from one CMS to another. The “other” being Helix, which required a lot more CSS and JavaScript skills than what my team is use to so I took on the hat to lead this migration. I worked with several other engineers on the Helix team during the process and was stoked to be leading our code base with them. This was the stepping stone I needed to become full time as a developer, rather than my previous design role. This was a huge year for me at Adobe so I’m definitely excited to see what challenges and success 2021 has in store.
Personal
This year was blah. The girls (my 7 and 4 year old) are struggling with the closure of parks, attractions, and being unable to visit family. However, my oldest girl is kickin butt in school, my youngest one is (what seems like) light years ahead of other kids her age, and my wife has been truly incredible through all of this. Recently my wife and I had a miscarriage which was extremely difficult. You always think think these types of things won’t happen to you until they do. So with everything else this year we are also recovering from that and so much more. My father in law has been battling cancer and it seems like a never ending road of bad news. He’s a fighter but my god, cancer sucks. This year was a sideway trend and if you know me or my wife than you know that’s not our style, but with everything going on in the world, we’ll happily take it.
Goals for 2021
A few goals I have set out for next year are:
- Take some Spanish classes. I want to surprise my mom with being able to have a full conversation with her in Spanish.
- Expand my growth as a front end engineer.
- Create a SaaS that generates at least 5 figures to start off.
- Continue learning from those around me.
- Blog more. This was fun.
Thanks for reading! I hope you all have an incredible new year with nothing but great health and success.
